First XV hit by late blow

Ealing Trailfinders first XV were denied a second win in Regional 2 Thames when Aylesbury scored a last-minute try to secure a 35-29 win.

The second XV enjoyed a second victory in Counties Middlesex 2, 45-17 away to Kilburn Cosmos, but the third XV opened their season with a 55-13 loss to Old Isleworthians in Middlesex Merit Table 3.

In Aylesbury, both teams tested each other in a close first half, but injuries to Ed Reeves and Alex John meant a reshuffle in the backline that the hosts capitalised on with their late try out wide.

Ealing 1871 competed hard, and there were impressive displays by Akeem Eubank-Anderson and Leo Coddrington-Lambert, who were part of a strong showing from the pack that helped the firsts leave with two bonus points.

Theo Szweda and Ben Thompson helped the second XV pack take their match by the scruff of the neck, while the front row of Logan Flint, Jack Feeney and Kimani Goppy played the full 80 minutes, without letting their standards drop.

In the back line, centres Afi Ijaz and Dan Clark led the defence, while also providing powerful focal points in attack.

The third XV were tested from the first whistle, but didn’t let their efforts drop and were rewarded with a try from Hugo Rocco and two penalties and a conversion from Alex Potter.
