1871 2nds crowned champions after dominant Friday night win

The Ealing Trailfinders 1871 2nd XV secured promotion and the league title in style with an emphatic 62–5 victory over Old Streetonians RFC under the Friday night lights.

Knowing a win would seal top spot, 1871 delivered a powerful and clinical performance from the outset. Albert Stoute opened the scoring from a driving maul before Aidan Jones added a second from a scrum penalty, both converted by Harrison Slater as the hosts quickly established control.

One of the standout moments of the evening followed soon after, as a sweeping counter attack that began deep inside the 1871 half ended with Kavan Fitzpatrick racing away to finish in the corner. Although Old Streetonians briefly responded with an interception try, 1871 soon reasserted their dominance.

Further first half scores from Dan O’Mahony, Marquis Daly-Vidal and David Vater ensured the home side took a commanding lead into the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Stoute crossing again before tries from Junior Peni, Jack Feeney and another from Peni completed an impressive attacking display. Slater’s accuracy from the tee added valuable points throughout the evening.

The result confirms the 1871 2nds as league champions with 98 points, a total that can no longer be matched with two matches still remaining in the season. The victory caps a consistent and determined campaign and marks an important step forward for the side as they prepare for the challenge of the higher division next season.
