1871 1sts crown promotion season with impressive final day victory

UCS 10–36 Ealing Trailfinders 1871 1sts

Ealing Trailfinders 1871 1sts brought their promotion-winning season to a close with a hard-fought 36–10 away victory over UCS, rounding off a campaign that has delivered both the league title and promotion to Level 6 rugby.

This was a fitting finale to a long and demanding season, shaped by setbacks, injuries and constant squad rotation, but underpinned throughout by players stepping up whenever called upon. UCS contributed strongly with what they described as their best performance of the season, asking serious questions of the Ealing defence and competing fiercely for every metre.

The opening period was scrappy at times, with Ealing showing moments of fluency but also being forced into sustained defensive work as UCS brought intensity and ambition with ball in hand. It was a contest built on physical effort rather than free-flowing rugby, with Ealing gradually finding their rhythm without fully dominating proceedings.

A decisive half-time message helped reset the balance, and the second half saw Ealing take clearer control. Despite continued resistance from UCS, Ealing added two well-taken tries after the break and tightened up defensively to prevent any further scoring.

The scoreboard eventually reflected Ealing’s greater efficiency, but the match itself was a proper test, with UCS pushing hard throughout and ensuring the visitors had to earn every opportunity.

With the final whistle, attention turned to reflection on a landmark season. Promotion to Level 6 is now secured, marking a significant step forward for the club as preparations begin for the challenges ahead.
