3rds pick up win in the rain as 1sts fall just short in thriller at Finchley

Ealing 1871 3rd XV 19 – 17 Chiswick 3rd XV
The 3s faced Chiswick on a wet and windy Friday night, making for a scrappy but entertaining encounter. Despite the difficult conditions, Ealing battled hard to take the win, with tries from Harry Mear and Niko Laqeretabua, and Andrew Quick adding three penalties. Big shout-outs go to Harry Mear for returning from injury and Ash Spencer, who added yet another cap to his collection. A gritty performance that showed plenty of character in testing conditions.

Finchley 24 – 17 Ealing 1871 1st XV
In a clash that lived up to its billing, the 1st XV faced Finchley in windy conditions for a high-tempo, skilful encounter. Ealing were imperious in the first half, dominating physically and putting constant pressure on Finchley’s ball, forcing turnovers and strategic errors. Tries from Lewis and Toby reflected the team’s control, taking a 10-0 lead into half-time.

However, the second half saw Finchley capitalise on two quick penalties and a brief period of defensive lapses, running in three tries. Losing skipper Lewis to injury would have shaken a lesser side, but Ealing rallied strongly, with powerful impact from George, Tim and Alex. Reggie eventually crossed under the posts to secure the losing bonus point, showing the team’s resilience in the face of adversity.

Looking ahead
The 2nd and 3rd XVs enjoy a rest week, with only one fixture taking place this weekend as the 1st XV head to Ruislip, looking to get their season back on track.
