Ealing 1871 2nds cruise into next round of MMT Cup

Ealing 1871’s second string produced a stunning performance to defeat HAC II in the first round of the MMT Cup, sweeping aside opponents who play a division higher in the MMT Premier. The 19-man squad played with energy and cohesion, reflecting the benefits of their intensive midweek training sessions.

HAC struck first with an early converted try, but Ealing quickly gained control through dominant scrummaging and accurate line-out work. Captain Harrison Slater opened the scoring with a penalty before hooker Luke Beasley crossed for the first of his two tries from powerful mauls. Further scores from Ilan Trowbridge and George Emmerson ensured Ealing went into the break 29-12 ahead.

The second half brought no respite for the visitors. Emmerson added his second try before replacements Callum Neal and Pat Nash also touched down, alongside a hat-trick performance from the outstanding Trowbridge. With Beasley and man of the match David Vater driving the pack forward, Ealing sealed an emphatic 57-24 victory.

The 2nds will now host Rosslyn Park 4ths in the next round of the cup. League action resumes this Saturday, 27 September, with a 1.00 pm kick-off at home against Grasshoppers. The 3rds also play at home, taking on Actonians in MMT3.
